Your Guide to the Different Types of Truck Beds
While truck beds are far from complicated as far as equipment goes, there are still a few decisions that need to be made when purchasing one. Otherwise, you may end up with a model that is not suitable for the task you have in mind. That is why Poplar Bluff Trailer has created this guide to the different types of truck beds.
Standard
As the name implies, standard truck beds are the most common type of truck bed on the market, to the point that almost all pickup trucks use a standard bed. These truck beds have a full perimeter of siding and a tailgate that folds down for effortless cargo loading and unloading. These truck beds can be further divided into sizes. Compact trucks will use a short truck bed, which is more square than other types. Your standard truck will use a mid-range bed, with long truck beds being found on larger pickup models.
Flatbed
While most pickups use the same type of bed, other types of trucks tend to have a bit more variety when it comes to truck beds. For example, many heavy-duty trucks utilize a flatbed rather than a standard bed. Flatbeds are popular due to their durability and ability to handle heavier loads. The lack of siding also makes them easier to load, and flatbeds are great for transporting bulky or unwieldy pieces of cargo.
Drop-Side
Another type of truck bed commonly used on heavy-duty trucks is the drop-side truck bed. Drop-side truck beds are very similar to standard truck beds with the caveat that all sidewalls can fold down rather than just the tailgate. This makes loading cargo much easier while also adding a layer of added security in case your tie-downs fail.
